PST opens UK’s first Sexual Wellness Clinic at Spire Hospital, Southampton

April 24, 2016

We are delighted to announce the opening of the UK’s first Sexual Wellness Clinic in Spire Southampton Hospital. Spire Healthcare is a group of nearly 40 private hospitals around the UK “dedicated to developing excellent clinical environments and delivering the highest quality patient care”.

Mike Lousada and Louise Mazanti were approached in 2015 by orthopaedic hip surgeon, Mr. Jeremy Latham, who told us “I’m constantly replacing people’s hips but I don’t feel able to talk to my patients about sex and sexual function”. After meetings with Spire Southampton’s management we were invited to open a new clinic to support patients with sex and relationship issues. Many of these would be in connection with health issues or medical procedures that may have impaired either their sexual function or confidence.

Mike Lousada, founder of PST, said “This is an amazing opportunity to bring PST to a broader audience, to continue the important work of making this evolutionary approach more mainstream and to work in conjunction with a world-class professional institution to promote the dissemination of this important therapeutic modality”.

The clinic formally opened in the first quarter of 2016 and has been supported by various health charities, including Diabetes UK and testicular cancer charity, Orchid, who spokesperson said of the clinic “We know sex is such an important issue for men with testicular cancer, and this is an area that needs to be explored, with far more information and help given”.

The opening of the clinic also creates the possibility for client work once PST students have completed their professional training. It is the hope of both PST and Spire that with the growing demand for this work in the clinic, we would hope that over time Spire will open up new Sexual Wellness Clinics around the country, potentially providing opportunities for PST practitioners to work nationwide in a clinical setting.
